From Russia, With Love Part 2
Submitted by Bernard Golden on Tue, 2010-06-01 14:47 Today I gave my seminar and keynote address at the Data Center conference here in Moscow. Interest in cloud computing is high in Russia, although actual adoption is quite low (.03%, according to stats presented by a speaker from LAN Magazine). The invitation to speak was originally extended by Pavel Ivanov, a writer for CIO. Here is a picture of Pavel (he's on the left; his colleague who organized the majority of the conference is on the right:
My presentation was quite well attended:
It's not easy fitting a keynote on "Why Cloud Computing is the Data Center of the Future" into 25 minutes! The challenge was even greater as I had a person doing simultaneous translation, which couldn't be easy, given all the terminology like "elasticity." Here is a pic of the translator in his booth:
Afterwards, I was interviewed by Oleg and Yuli of OSP (sponsor of the event and IDG licensee in Russia), along with the aforementioned fellow from LAN Magazine (he and Yuli translated). Apparently, it took two translators to make sense of what I was saying! Here is a pic of the three of them:
As far as the presentations and interaction with the audience members, I plan to address that in my weekly CIO blog. Suffice it to say that, notwithstanding the lack of cloud computing adoption in Russia, members voiced the same type of concerns that you hear from technology people here in the US. |
